Does having the right mattress affect my sleep?
So for about a year now I've had some pretty bad sleep insomnia. I wake up, toss and turn almost every hour on the hour. Could it be due to my mattress? Cause typically I wake up and I have lower back pain and shoulder pain and have to toss and turn. Or should I just go to doctor and get some sleeping pills?

A bad mattress is a culprit for insomnia and sleep-related pain, but on the other hand, many people with good mattresses experience insomnia and sleep-related pain because of poor sleeping habits. Like, if your mattress is fine but your body is restless while you sleep, that can also cause the insomnia and pain.
I wouldn't recommend sleeping pills -- if your experience is like mine, sleeping pills will affect your memory and everyday thinking. I'll put a link below to an insomnia guide available on Amazon that helped me overcome my insomnia. Another option is yoga, which a friend of mine swears by but which I haven't tried.

Oh gosh a good mattress is critical! I need to buy a new mattress and I'm fearful that I'll buy the wrong one and wind up with a c#*&y mattress for 10 years! Laying on the wrong mattress (for you) can bring on pain, stiffness, and body parts falling asleep! (Especially in the shoulder for me.) There are mattress toppers you can try or, depending on the age of your mattress and your budget, just buy a new one. Sleeping pills will bring you relief for a day or two then addiction sets in. Please don't go that route, they are not safe. I've never talked to anyone who had a good/healthy experience with sleeping pills.
