Please explain how to solve.

An scientist unearths the remains of a wooden box analyzes them for the carbon-14 content and finds that about 12.5% of the carbon-14 initially present remains. Estimate the age of the box. The half life of the carbon-14 is 5600 years.

    12.5% left (1/8) means it has gone through 3 half lives. Just multiply the half life by 3.

    Here's how it's done:

    Make a chart with one column for half-lives, one column for time in years, and another column for the percentage of the substance. You start with zero half-lives, zero years, and 100% of the substance. Then, you go to one half life, 5600 years, and 50% of the substance. The next column is 2 half lives, 11200 years, and 25% of the substance. Continue until you get to 12.5%
