Genesis pretty explicitly says the sky is full of water. Creationists, when are the Voyager probes going to find this airborne ocean?

"1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so."

So says the opening of the world's second most inexplicable bestseller (seriously Twilight fans, what the hell?).

It says pretty clearly that the universe is full of water, and that the Earth exists in kind of a bubble, the firmament, between the water "out there" and the water that makes our seas. This was a common belief of the time and is repeated throughout ancient literature.

My question, then, is for Biblical literalists who believe every word of the Bible as fact, and would rather go with the Bible than any kind of evidence or scientific framework, and is thus: The Voyager probes are now 19 billion kilometers from Earth and have yet to reach the other end of the firmament, and find all this water. How far away is it? Or is the Voyager mission a hoax?

If you study the literary format of this ancient piece of literature, you discover the creation account starts with three states - Formless, Chaos, and Empty. On Day One the Heavens are dealt with by God creating light. This accords wonderfully well with the Big Bang theory, by the way, as light has many forms and most of them began with the start of our universe. But VISIBLE light could not happen until stars were formed and it was on Day Four that (from the point of view of someone on Earth) visible light from beyond became clear.

And that has a lot to do with what you call the airborne ocean!

On Day Two, God dealt with the Water and the Sky - on Earth. Not out there, in the universe. This bit applies to planet Earth, which was initially dark and covered in water. Just think about the amount of water that would entail. So, on Day Two, form began to take shape with the water and the sky so that, on Day Five, the empty waters and sky could be filled with birds and fish.

On Day Three, the Earth was formed with distinctions between the water still on it, and land. Then, come Day Six the Earth was ready for animals and the first humans.

So, to understand the process, you have to see how the formless was formed; the chaos became the cosmos, and the empty became filled. The formless stuff was dealt with on Days One, Two and Three, and those realms were filled on Days Four, Five and Six. Neat, uh?

Just take the entire account and analyze it, then you will see the brilliance of creation and how this poetic language has been suitable for the many thousands of years when humans could cope with that, but wouldn't have a scoobie if words like quantum fluctuations, entropy, thermodynamics or atomic particles had been written down. The Bible is not a science textbook, you see. It is designed to help people get a glimpse of the God who creates, and who communicates with us, His creatures. AiH

Keep reading. At the time of the flood God opened the windows and let the water through. He didn't let it all through, though, after forty days he closed the windows again. There's probably still some water above the firmament.

How they can believe that stuff is literally true, I don't know.

Whatever do you think clouds contain.

Anyhow, why should a book written from a spritual standpoint

    be literal about science?

'My luve is like a red.red rose' is cientific nonsense...

    but great poetic truth.

    You protest too much

The universe IS full of water, but it's either a) trapped in comets or b) under the surface of planets or c) too far away for the Hebrews to know about it.

In Genesis waters means the astral planes and not physical water as such. we need to rewrite all the books of these old and outworn bibles and hey guess what we are doing just that.

It was. Came down in the Flood. Water came up from the ground, too. Broke the land up, too. did you read that?

IT clearly says that there is water above the expanse (Space) and below the expanse(space) but it does not say anything specific about water filling the expanse.

Well, there is an awful lot of hydrogen out there, so they're half right.
