how do i take my computer back to an earlier state?

odd. but i have done this before and forgotten how i solved it. i typed a word doc and pressed dont save by mistake. i know it is possible to take you computer back in time and see any documents previously. eg if i did it at 3.15pm i could take my computer to what was on my computer at that time, saved or not.

its not the "restore files in backup" answer.

System restoration is possible but your document is not there because you did not save it.

It's called System Restore. Not sure what Windows version you have. If you still have XP, then :

Go to Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, and there you can click on System Restore. It will bring up a small calendar, with which you can choose to restore the computer to an earlier time, whether merely hours, or days, or even months.

    It's pretty fool proof.

    Good luck.
