Help me pick out books to read?
For the first time in four years I don't have a summer reading assignment. o.O And since I really don't know what I'll do with myself, I thought I'd ask and see what recs people have.
A mix of literary merit and fluff/recreational would be ideal.
I like historical, fantasy, sci-fi, queer, controversial/banned, romance, action, horror, etc.
Nothing terribly long, though, please. I'd like to read a few books this summer.
Some of my favorite books of literary merit include:
A Seperate Peace
Of Mice and Men
Catcher in the Rye
Catch-22
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Maurice
Frankenstein
The Screwtape Letters
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Some of my favorite books for fluff and recreation include:
Harry Potter
Looking for Alaska
pretty much anything Jodi Picoult
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
Lord of the Rings
East
Seven Kingdoms Trilogy
Song of Ice and Fire series

If you like the harry potter series, you should consider the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, and Alex rider by (I forgot). However, if you want something more into investigating/murder you should read Dan Brown books ALL OF THEM ARE GOOD (unfortunately its kinda long):D.
A really short book that is good would be umm....
Lord of the flies by william golding
Animal farm by George Orwell
Hope this helps and Enjoy yr reading :D

Haha, I was going to recommend the song of fire and ice series if I didn't see it on the list, but you already got that one.
The old man and the sea. It's short and simple, but still one of my favorites. I read it in one day.
Watership down. This one took me a couple of tries to catch my interest, but once I got past the first couple chapters I was just captivated by the plight of these poor bunnies, lol.
The jungle. It is the saddest novel I have ever read. It is probably my favorite novel, even though I've only read it once. I just can't bring myself to read it again, it's that sad.
A clockwork Orange. This is another of my favorite books. The main character is a horrible person, yet some how when he addresses the audience you just can't help but pity him.
Lolita. If you like controversial, this is it. Not my very favorite, but nit bad.
I might add more if I think of some later.
