Cell phone reception at remote location in USA?

We are headed to a part of California that supposedly it's impossible to get reception to make calls from our cell phones. Wasn't sure if that is possible, but if it is, are there special devices that can boost phones to get reception in remote places? Or other devices out there that I can purchase so I can make phone calls, send texts, etc? Thanks.

Cell phones use radio signals to antenna normally mounted on towers, the range line of sight and only so many miles so it there are no towers in a reasonably distance you will get no service.

No device will move a hill or move a tower closer, you can do these things on the net, do you have wifi there.
