now I'm being held in contempt of court because I filed in small claims court for repayment. Do I have any recourse?

Not if you did not know they filed Bankruptcy. Consult with a lawyer or Google it.

Not really - you should have filed a claim with the bankruptcy trustee. At best, you will get pennies on the dollar and the remainder of the debt goes away. If you don't file with the trustee, you get nothing.
