Why won't my ipad (2) connect to wifi other than my home wifi?

I brought my ipad to the gym today, so I could watch television. I typed in the password, to the wifi provided by the gym, and my ipad said it connected. So I tried to get onto netflix, and it wouldn't work. Then I tried using safari, and my ipad simply wouldn't do anything online. So, I decided to try and reconnect, but when I looked, it was still trying to connect to the wifi. My phone, as well as my brother's ipad, connected fine.
