What are the requirements to become a social worker/psychologist?

I'm a 16 year old female and this is really what I want to but everyone discourages me and tells me that it's a very competitive field and it's almost impossible to make a living in this profession.. Should I put this time in effort into this profession? I already graduated high school, what classes should I take at my community college?? I want to be making a decent living by 20 so I'm trying to start a little earlier than my peers. And also, can psychologist wear make up? Someone told me that they can't because it's "unprofessional" and my friend also tells me that "you can't look like a porn star and expect to be a psychologist" which is bull ****!! I dress appropriately but people always expect me to become a bartender or stripper or something and it puts me down because I don't want to give people that trashy impression :/

You can take an undergraduate degree in psychology or sociology and then get your msw or master's in social work. It will take some time because you have to get your 4 year degree and then a 2 year degree for the master's. You can wear makeup. there's nothing wrong with that.

    Hi!

I'm sixteen years old as well, and I am majoring in psychology. I just finished my first year at Simon's Rock college. It is a residential four year college that lets you pursue your interests. The school offers the BA and AA degrees in a number of different majors.

I've only been here two semesters and I've already taken four psych classes, and started research with some of my professors. I'm already going to moderate (pick my major) officially this fall, and I know for a fact that I will study psychology.

The great thing about Simon's Rock is that it accepts younger students ready for college, whether or not they have a high school diploma. I came after my tenth grade, and I just "dropped out" of high school and headed over. Some students get GEDs, but you really don't need them. There were two BA graduates who went to PhD programs at Yale and Harvard without GEDs. The school has great academics that really prepare you for your future.

The psychology department is one of the most popular, and it gets you ready to do well in graduate school. Many of the professors here have taught at the graduate level and hold their upper level psychology classes to the same standards. I took multicultural psychology and ended up doing over one hundred pages of writing throughout the semester (for that psychology class alone, and I took three at the same time). The thing is that, a year ago, I never would have though I was ready to do that, but because the school is for motivated younger students like us, it has a great environment to get ahead on your work.

If you want to get started on your career immediately and want a great college that offers psychology, look into Simon's Rock. You can even start as soon as this fall (August) since they have rolling admissions.

I like trashy psychologists. Go for it.
