You can get the correct PS (power steering) fluid from AutoZone, just MAKE SURE it says it is for use in Hondas, otherwise you will be in for some expensive repairs. ATF (automatic transmission fluid) WILL NOT work in the PS system of a Honda (ok it will until your steering rack/ and or pump fails).

The power steering fluid you use does not need to be Honda brand. It simply needs to be 3 Dot, 4 Dot, or 5 Dot, depending on which is recommended for your Civic.

if it doesn't use special mineral oil then most power steering fluids would be OK if it's red even auto transmission fluid is Ok if it's green it may be mineral fluid, it's 14 year old car you don't need to use an expensive brand of anything , try k-mart or walmart

You have to use the fluid specific for Honda. The yellow stuff. You do not use the red stuff that the other cars uses.

You can find a bottle at auto zone that says on the label "meets Honda spec xxx".

It will also say "meets GM spec. yyy" because it is the same fluid.

To take it one further it is the same fluid sold for cheaper in a larger bottle called Automatic Transmission Fluid.
