How much weight should I lose to get close to 5 second forties?

I used to run a 6 second forty. Over the last couple months I've been doing lots of lower body workouts which have improved my forty to almost 5.6. I have 21% body fat, and weigh 185 at 5'11. How much weight (or fat %) should I lose before I can reach 5 seconds?

Based on your height and weight, as well as your 40-yard dash time, I believe that the best fit for you is at tight end. Your size gives you the potential to become an elite high school tight end.

My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this summer (and every offseason) is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, into better shape, and lose some weight, which will greatly improve your 40-yard dash time, as well as your chances of becoming a successful, top notch tight end in football.

Keep doing what you're doing. Your weight is normal; you just need to build more muscle.

BTW, Andy and Rey are right. I coached and didn't pay too much attention to 40 times. When I played I was lucky to get much under 5 flat but I could get to the ball quicker than guys who ran better times.

Start losing weight and running 40's and you'll find out how much it will take for you to hit the 5 second mark ... Good luck...
