How to overhand serve in volleyball?

I already know the drill. Left foot in front of right, right pointing to side, left pointing in direction I want the ball to go.Then I toss so that the ball is over my hitting shoulder, and then contact the ball with a stiff, firm wrist (like I'm giving someone a high five). I do this, but I still can't get my serve? I have volleyball tryouts in 5 weeks. What do I do? Think I can get it in 5 weeks? Do you think it's not going over because I'm not strong/tall enough? I'm 5"1". Whenever I serve the ball it goes high/short or flat/long. What do I need to do so it goes over the net? Please help!

I'm shorter than you and I used to have the same problem. In order to fix it, I simply needed stronger hits and more power. You could do this by doing pushups and strengthening your arms or go big and try a jumpserve.

I mastered the jump serve before the overhand standing serve. It's a little more complicated to have your footsteps and movement coordingatin with the ball but with more practice you'll be fine.

For now I'd stick with just strengthening your arms, since it'll be necessary for volleyball tryouts and workouts anyways. You can later ask your coach if you want to improve!!!

Im about 5'5 and i over hand serve. usually when your ball does that its because your not throwing it high enough. You want the ball to be up as high as your hand will reach towards the roof when you toss it up. When connecting to the ball make sure your hands spread open so it covers more surface area of the vball. To work on your toss just toss the ball up and take the step when u go to hit and get the ball to land in your palm when its at its highest point. Its a really good way to practise learning how to toss the ball so that it works out nicely when you go to serve.
