Best way to record sound in sync with a Super 8 camera?

I am looking into a Super 8 camera and was wandering what is the best way to record audio that would sync with the footage? I have a RODE mic and was wandering if there is anyway to use that to shoot audio. Thanks.

In the later days of Super 8, from about 1974, there were cameras produced which recorded sound in sync, on a special film in a slightly different cartridge - obviously you have to specify "sound" when buying. Then you need to buy a sound projector for Super 8.

That is the only way you will get guaranteed sync sound with Super 8. Using external recorders is a big fiddle, and you will soon grow bored with the fuss.

As a matter of interest - why buy a film-based system for domestic use, when there are now so many video camcorders available? Even 20 years ago that might have been seen as an eccentric decision.

Video is so much cheaper to run,and you could buy brand-new, not a used camera at least 20 years old.
