Can counselors take sides?

I am being forced to see my dad after 15 years of him not being there and now the counselor took his side. He is lying the whole time and making excuses. So can counselors take sides or do they have to be a neutral person in this situation?

They have to be neutral or else it guarantees one side will come out upset. Your counselor is a fake and so's your dad.

They ought not to take sides, but they are human like the rest of us and sometimes lose their objective view of the situation.
