Is the Samsung Galaxy S3 still a good phone?
My Verizon contract ends in a few days, and I will be upgrading to my first smartphone (I know, I'm behind the times). I can get a Galaxy S3 for 97¢, but I was wondering if I should spend a little more money, and get something a little more modern. What phone would you recommend?
I don't need the latest and greatest technology, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. I also prefer Android phones.

That's still a pretty good phone. You should go ahead and get it if you want, but also look into other options first. Other Samsung phones, HTC, LG, Google Nexus, etc.

Samsung S3 is very sluggish for even basic tasks. Even today's mid-range phones are better than it. Add to the fact that Samsung bundles off tons of bloatware. My Brother's Moto G (180$ unlocked) and my friend's Xperia L (entry-level midrange phone) is faster and more capable than S3.

You can still keep your Samsung Galaxy S3. It is not outdated.
