How much slower would a wifi extension make my wifi?

I have a Netgear WR3000 ( I think I'm missing a letter ) WiFi Extender. I've been looking around and apparently WiFi Extenders can slow down your original WiFi a lot. Some even by half, but then I searched some more online and found out some WiFi extenders don't slow down the internet as much as others. I wanted to know if maybe my WiFi Extender is one of those. It's hard to tell the difference sometimes, but sometimes it does feel like my WiFi gets slower at one point. Any help would be appreciated. =D

All wifi extenders slow down the overall data rate, regardless. That is because the extender has to repeat everything twice, once to/from the laptop, then once to/from the router. How much slower depends on the type of traffic. Something like large downloads may not be hit as hard, but anything with lots of smaller packets back and forth will be affected differently.

Always assume worst case, you get about 1/2 the speed, and anything better than that is a bonus....
