How does one go about proving the existence of a theological intangible?

God exists because it says so in a dusty old tome? By that logic I could say Elves exists because it says so in The Lord of the Rings.

So how does one go about proving the existence of a theological intangible?

    By:

    1.) Explicitly defining the characteristics of that intangible;

2.) Extrapolating some falsifiable predictions based on those characteristics; and then

3.) Testing those hypotheses under controlled conditions.

Unfortunately, the God Hypothesis makes no testable predictions, which makes it little more than an "I dunno" wrapped in Bronze Age superstition.

I feel bad that if someone does not have faith they would want others to agree with them! Why would anyone want to share hopelessness..

How can the universe create itself out of nothingness? Doesn't it make sense to assume the existence of a Creation. This statement is tricky because it sneaks in the false assumption that GOD came from somewhere and then asks where that might be. The answer is that the question does not even make sense. It is like asking, “What does blue smell like?” Blue is not in the category of things that have a smell, so the question itself is flawed. In the same way, GOD is not in the category of things that are created or caused. GOD is uncaused and uncreated—He simply exists.

We know that from nothing, nothing comes. So, if there were ever a time when there was absolutely nothing in existence, then nothing would have ever come into existence. But things do exist. Therefore, since there could never have been absolutely nothing, something had to have always been in existence. That ever-existing being is what we call GOD ,GOD is the un-caused Being that caused everything else to come into existence. God is the uncreated Creator who created the universe and everything in it.

The universe requires a cause because it had a beginning, GOD unlike the universe, had no beginning, so he doesn’t need a cause. Einstein’s theory of general relativity, which has much experimental support, shows that time is linked to matter and space. So time itself would have begun along with matter and space. Since GOD is the creator of the whole universe, he is the creator of time. Therefore He is not limited by the Reality, Time dimension He created..

You can't see the wind, but you know it is there because you can see what the wind is doing. You can know that the wind is there because you can feel it.GOD is like the wind, you can't see him.

Consider the creation around you first. For example DNA. The following is an excerpt taken from the publication "The Origin of Life - Five questions worth asking"

A professor of molecular biology and computer science noted: “One gram of DNA, which when dry would occupy a volume of approximately one cubic centimeter, can store as much information as approximately one trillion CDs [compact discs].”(20 Scientific American, “Computing With DNA,” by Leonard M. Adleman, August 1998, p. 61) What does that mean? Remember, the DNA contains the genes, the instructions for building a unique human body. Each cell has a complete set of instructions. DNA is so dense with information that a single teaspoonful of it could carry the instructions for building about 350 times the number of humans alive today! The DNA required for the seven billion people living on earth now would barely make a film on the surface of that teaspoon. (21 Nano Letters, “Enumeration of DNA Molecules Bound to a Nanomechanical Oscillator,” by B. Ilic, Y. Yang, K. Aubin, R. Reichenbach, S. Krylov, and H. G. Craighead, Vol. 5, No. 5, 2005, pp. 925, 929)

Despite advances in miniaturization, no man-made information storage device can approach such a capacity. Yet, the compact disc offers an apt comparison. Consider this: A compact disc may impress us with its symmetrical shape, its gleaming surface, its efficient design. We see clear evidence that intelligent people made it. But what if it is embedded with information—not random gibberish, but coherent, detailed instructions for building, maintaining, and repairing complex machinery? That information does not perceptibly change the weight or the size of the disc. Yet, it is the most important feature of that disc. Would not those written instructions convince you that there must be some intelligent mind at work here? Does not writing require a writer?

It is not far-fetched to compare DNA to a compact disc or to a book. In fact, one book about the genome notes: “The idea of the genome as a book is not, strictly speaking, even a metaphor. It is literally true. A book is a piece of digital information . . . So is a genome.” The author adds: “The genome is a very clever book, because in the right conditions it can both photocopy itself and read itself.

So take time to consider the incredible intelligence found in everyday life. As the scriptures state, in complete agreement with the incredible design of creation "Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but the one who constructed all things is God" - Hebrews 3:4

Generally, you can prove the existence of the intangible, by demonstrating the effects on the tangible.

A magnetic field can be detected because it induces an electric charge in a wire. Dark matter is conjectured because "something" is having a gravitational effect on galaxies.

Unfortunately "god" has no effect of any kind on the material world. Supposedly, after you die your intangible soul will go somewhere intangible and then some intangible stuff will happen.

Depends on what criteria you are willing to accept as "proof".

It also depends on how you define the words "existence" & "theological intangible"

Certain arrangements will create an unprovable claim, and other may create one that is true tautologically, and still others can be proven by merely willing it to be true.

The issue you will encounter when discussing the matter is that, while we all use the same words, we don't always use them to mean the exact same things. So we end up talking past each other.

Are you really THAT clueless? Look up "intangible". There is no such thing as "self-evident" unless you are referring to the fact that somethings exists and you can point to it. You have to understand the meanings of the words first, before you can make sense enough to ask a question that is meaningful. This question lacks on all fronts because you do not understand what intangible means.

Perhaps you should prove the material universe actually exists before you start worring about the immaterial spiritual realm.. There is no reason to believe what you call the material universe is anything more than a projection/simulation (or as the scripture says a shadow of the immaterial). According to atheist rules, with existential claims without proof the assumption is something does not exist and the burden of proof is on the one making the existential claim.

One can only prove it to themselves by suspending disbelief, logic, reason and skepticism.

Crazy, or desperate people poses the necessary irrationality to self delude themselves with such things.

Reality is not for everyone, that much is undeniable.

Some people think their emotions are a good way to determine what is true, but the universe makes no concessions for what people deem to be nice IF true.

You are on the wrong track, I'm afraid.

Proof is the very *last* thing a theist needs to verify the existence of his or her god or gods.

It is the Blind Faith aspect that attracts people to theism. If their deities were not magical, they would hold no interest for them.

Ask them for hard evidence that their gods exist, and they'll consider that you must be insane.

(They do require evidence for everything else, of course.)

  • By his creation, which he has given us. He has made it "self evident"(Rom.1:20) that he is there via his world (Ps.19:1).

By his word. When we come to realize that the freeing truth of Gods existence (John8:32) and spirit of God himself is manifested within his word, he reveals himself to us through it (Dan.2:22). See John 5:39.

By his spirit. When we come to know God in a fuller way, and we become a child of God through faith (Titus.3:5) and obedience (Heb.5:9), he gives us his spirit, and it also testifies of God, and leads us into all truth (John 16:13)
