Which volleyball position would I be in?
Hi,
I'm trying out for freshman volleyball soon. I want to know what position I'd most likely play on the team.
Qualities:
- I'm a good setter.
- Great passer.
- Dig balls.
- Very fast.
Thank you!
Oh, and I'm 5'1"

Qualities of a setter:
1. Fastest kid on the team (or one of the fastest)
2. Smart (volleyball IQ)
3. Is polite yet vicious at the same time (toward teh other team of course)
4. Is a good poker player! (can talk a ref out of a call with a straight face)
5. Knows how to inspire players to play better than they are
Skills can be developed...it is the mental game that is important for a setter. They have leadership qualities and would be the first person you would go into battle with!
DS/Libero is a control freak!
1. Fast / Quick Twitch muscles (google it)
2. Play low to the ground...lower the better
3. Loves defense...loves preventing the other team from doing ANYTHING!
Hitters are aggressive and sometimes mean spirited!
1. Fast
2. Good vision
3. Good communication skills
4. Love hitting people in the face with the ball!

How old are you? That's kind of important too - if you are going to be 5'1" for another few months while you grow, or are you going to be short. If you are young and still growing, your position is still up in the air. What is your vertical? That's important. Try to get better at everything. What do you enjoy? Usually folks have a passion for the position they go for. It's hard to make someone love setting or love being a libero unless it is already in them. You say you are fast....can you get to the ball no matter where it is on the court? The setter is the quarterback and has to lead the team...she is supposed to touch the ball every time it is on your side of the net. If you are 5'1" and won't grow much more, then I'd still with passing/libero.

If you are 5'1", then you shouldn't play in the front row since you would barely be able to get over the net to block and hit. I suggest that you become a DS (defensive specialist) since you are good at passing and very fast. You would also need to be a kind of good setter for emergencies. So I suggest becoming a back row defender. The shorter the better, and you can dig balls a lot easier than tall people. Hope this helps :)

I would say you would be a libero or defensive specialist because of your skills and height. :)
