How long should I water newly seeded grass for?
So I just planted a new backyard. I put down soil conditioner, turned the dirt, added seeds, than topped it with some soil topper. My question is how long should I water my backyard and when? It's summer now, I live about an hour north of LA in SoCal. It's averagely about 70-80 degrees out here everyday. I am currently watering it at 7 am and 3 pm everyday for 5 min. Is that long enough or not? I really don't wana mess this thing up here. It's been two days. No showing of grass, just seeds still. I use a hose to water and I make sure it fans the water out.

I would like you to consider changing the watering times to just once in the evening, just before dusk and water to at least a 1/4 inch using a cup as a gauge. With the heat you have, your water is only teasing the seed. At least in the evening it starts to cool down some and by morning, all those seeds and roots had a nice drink.
Continue until the grass is established then water as needed.

The seed and soil need to stay consistently moist in order to germinate. Grass seeding should be done in the early spring or fall for best results.

It sounds about right, however you want to make sure you are keeping it moist but not watering it so much that you start washing all your dirt and seed away..... grass seed can take anywhere from 5-30 days, depending on the variety to germinate so I wouldn't worry about not seeing anything just yet.
