Although still rare, most cancers found in the heart have come from elsewhere in the body. These include lymphomas that originate in the chest near the heart. Other cancers that can spread to the heart include melanomas and sarcomas. In cases of marantic endocarditis, the heart valves are damaged by the cancer, and it may cause the valves to malfunction. In severe cases, the heart valves may need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this is often a sign of very advanced cancer and carries a poor prognosis. Another rare type of cancer known as carcinoid tumor at times produces hormones that can damage heart valves.

Primary heart cancer is one of the rarest cancers. Most heart tumors are not cancer and those that are cancerous are generally metastatic.

You can reduce your risk by dying of something else, but the risk is already tiny.

There is no such thing as heart cancer. Tumors can develop in the heart, but cancerous heart tumors are extremely rare. There is no known cause, so there's nothing that can be done to reduce the risk. Cancerous heart tumors are less common than the number of people that die each year from bee stings or lightening.
