I want to play Football (American), but is it too late?

I'm 20 years old, i go to a University, yes a D1 school. We obviously have a football team, I love to watch football, but as i grew up, I never got the chance to play because i was too thin, and always one of those kids who prefer to be safe. I'm going to be entering my 3rd year, and so i missed the tryouts, or Spring Training, or whatever. I doubt i can even make the team at this point since i've never played it. But i have seen enough football to know the rules, i follow all NFL teams, and most College teams. It honestly looks fun to play, i enjoy to throw the football around a lot, even by myself, it's fun having people throw the football at me and i try to catch it and stuff, i kick it, and i have so much fun doing so.

The only problem about all of this, i'm short *NFL standards* I'm 5'8", i'm very very thin, i weight 110lb, i'm not a fast runner, i have high anxiety, i'm not very strong either. Yea most of you would say that it's too late for all of this. But for some reason, a small part of me says get off my lazy bum and start working out and hopefully shoot to join your senior year. It's weird, i never told anyone, it just looks fun to be on that field and hope to make a play on the field that fills you up with joy knowing you made thousands of fans cheering!

Any tips?

I know football isnt for everyone, i'm not shooting for an NFL career, just a try out in a new sport.

Update:

Also, i don't know what position i should play, i'm thinking WR, or perhaps something on Special Teams, like a Punt returner, or a kicker.

It could be to late.... But I have a solution. Ever heard of a long snapper? If not google it. There are like no "requirments" or standards to the position. It is the least none position in football. Watch a few tip videos on YouTube or whatever. Practice, practice practice. And take a shot at it next year. Tell the coaches or special team coaches that you want to be a long snapper and that's all. Since your so small. Try it out. Failing is not trying.

FOotball!? It's never too late to learn how to football! haha I love football. It's good for hobbies, playing around, talking with friends and starting conversation. You didn't say anything about doing it proffesionaly, but if you were trying to go pro you should get in some serious shape. Join a rec luege in your town to see if there's anything there that could take you to the next level. If not, enjoy football like the millions of other viewers out there!

I highly encourage you to try out, and become a walk-on, for your Division 1 College Football program during this upcoming season. It will still not (yet) be too late for you to start playing football.

Based on your height and weight, I believe that you will make a very good fit at the wide receiver position. For your age, you have the ideal size for a wide receiver in college football.

Remember, the best way to prove yourself is through actions, not words. My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this summer is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of making it as a walk-on wide receiver for your Division 1 College Football team during this upcoming season.

Yes, and lateness isn't your only problem
