Go on and continue with GitS. Its better to keep going on with the same flow of things. And when you do watch Evangelion, which I still highly recommend, make sure to watch the original series before watching any of the reboots.

As a whole I woulds say "Both" but but if you have Gits on the brain then go with that first.
