simplify 2/x + 3x+1/x^2 + x-2/x^3 ?

    It's impossible to tell what parts are in the numerators and what parts are in the denominators, but this might be the problem:

    ..2 ... .. 3x + 1 .......x - 2

    ----- + ----------- + --------

    ..x .... .... x² .......... x³

    1) Clear the fractions by multiplying all three terms by the LCD of x³ and letting the denominators cancel as much as they can.

    After you have multiplied and canceled, you get this:

    2x² + x ( 3x + 1 ) + x - 2

    2) Clear the parentheses by distributing the x

    2x² + 3x² + x + x - 2

    3) Combine like terms

    5x² + 2x - 2 <-- answer

    2x^2 + 3x^2+x + x-2

    5x^2 + 2x - 2

    multiplied everything with x^3

    First, it depends on where you ASSUME the INVISIBLE parentheses are. It is not enough to use space / no space as a delimiter.
