For what conditions might a doctor prescribe an IUD.?

I'm curious about birth control being used to treat conditions outside just preventing pregnancy. I know that the drugs are often used to treat various hormonal issues in women, but are there conditions that warrant the use of an IUD, other than strictly birth control?

The Mirena IUD is very useful at treating fibroid tumors. These are noncancerous growths in the uterus which can cause excessive bleeding and pain during menstruation. It's also good for endometriosis and general bad periods.

The Paragard IUD is really pretty much 100% used for birth control.

Endometriosis, heavy periods, break through bleeding, unexplained pelvic pain, to control hormones, some think it may slow or stop uterine fibroids from growing or continuing to grow because it controls hormones. Should I go on?

Hormonal IUDs like mirena are used for this. Copper ones are used as birth control, they can actually make periods heavier.
