Confused? (Japanese)?

Sometimes I see people who have used Katakana for words that are Japanese.

Like:

Person A: すきです。

Person B: スキです。

Both both people mean the same thing, "I like you". Why is this? It confuses me..

Katakana can be used to make things stand out or to emphasize things in writing (kind of like the use of italics in English). Most likely the writer just wanted the sentence "スキです。" to stand out more than usual.
