Help? IT Major vs Computer Science Major?

I'm a bit puzzled by which of these degrees I should go with. For the past few years I've wanted to be a Software Engineer or developer. Making programs just seemed so interesting to me and then a week ago I went to talk to my counselor at school. I expressed that I've wanted to major in Computer Science but my biggest worry is that I need a lot of math to get the degree. She recommended that I could still be involved with computers if I went with an IT degree which requires less math. I haven't started school yet but I don't know what to think about an IT major. Is one major better? Which one has the higher paying jobs? I like fixing computers but I just don't know what to think.

You should think about what you really want to do. If you really want to be a software programmer will you really be happy as an IT person?? I would not advise a major in IT-There are a TON of IT majors that cannot get work. There is a very high supply and very low demand thanks to offshoring of a lot of IT. I have IT grads driving forklifts b/c they cannot get a job in IT.

Computer Science Major is good for you. It is on demand in the job market.
