A man of mass 70kg & a child of mass 35kg stand on an ice surface.?

When they push each other by pressing their hands, the man is thrown away on ice @ speed 0.3 ms-1. What will be the distance between the man & the child after 5s ?

    By the law of momentum conservation:-

    =>Mu = mV

    =>70 x 0.3 = 35 x V

    =>V = 0.60 m/s

    Relative velocity = 0.60 - (-0.30) = 0.90 m/s

    Thus distance = Velocity x time = 0.90 x 5 = 4.50 m

    They shouldn't be messing about on ice. It's dangerous. You should report them. Do you know their names?
