What's better auto or heavy duty technician?

I'm checking online and it says Heavy Duty has more pay and openings than a auto technician.

Pros and cons between auto and heavy duty technician.

What's more in demand this moment?

I like working with my hands. I could never sit in a office and do paperwork all day.

The industry is begging for Heavy Equipment Mechanics at the moment, Australia's mining industry, Canada and Dakotas oil boom is driving the price of qualified mechanics through the roof, upwards of 6 figures in some cases, Although very brutal weather conditions which is a con, and yes a lot of these repairs will need to be done outside in the elements so its not a job for wussies, Over the road Heavy duty truck and trailer mechanics don't do as well but still a bit better than light duty automotive mechanics, and tend to be more in demand, Trick is in getting the initial training such as a trade school or military training, as its rare for any place to take on apprentices these days, I'm a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for a County government which explains why I'm not in Dakota or Australia if you know what I mean, I got my start in the military working on fighter jets, hate those things by the way, one thing led to another and here I am. 20 years later, Now I find myself needing to train another, I'd like to find a youngster that knows there heavy duty, stick them on dump trucks and such and ease them into heavy equipment, and see if they have the mentality for it, Why a youngster? Like to get at least 20 years out of them after I retired and hasn't developed bad habits yet, as this equipment normally has about a 100 or so ways to kill you, and it aint your mothers Subaru, its so more complex it makes moms car look like a tinker toy.

Did you read the part where it says EXPERIENCED???? Doesnt matter where you work at or what you work on, the more training & experience you have usually you get more pay. Diesel pays more than automobiles but most places what training, experience techs, etc.

Which is more suitable for you, being paid piecework or hourly wage.
