why would the answers community object to quoting a TV commercial when answering a question about a bic lighte?
I was answering a question for a person who was shoveling money into a car that is designed to be fully utilized and then thrown away. the wrecking yard is full of them because cost of repair exceeds the return on your money.
i quoted a TV commercial that sums it all up, you buy it, you throw it away. the commercial aired for years and years on commercial television and entered every american home and was cleared for broadcast by the strictest uptight sensors.
So what do you think is the fear of it ???

To answer, we'd really need to know exactly what the question and answer were.
Frankly, I can't understand from *this* question whether you were answering a question about a Bic lighter or about a car - so possibly your answer was so confusing that someone took it as a non-answer.
Another possibility is that it actually *was* a non-answer. If someone asks (say) how to repair a particular car, "throw it away and get a new one" is not a valid answer on Y!A. You have to answer the question asked and suggest how to repair it; you could add then that you think it isn't worth it.

Questions and answers are removed when they violate the rules AND enough people report. You can not complain if your violation gets reported while others do not. If you see violations, report them.
As to your quote, it was probably seen as "Not an Answer" to the question posed. It may have fit the situation and may have worked in addition to a direct answer, but some may not have ever seen the commercial.
