TV like Wi-Fi?

Why can't direct TV be hooked up in side a home like Wi-Fi to my computer. A transmitter, similar to the Wi-Fi modem, that's attached from to the dish to a location in the home that would in turn send the signal to a receiver attached to the TV receiver eliminating the need for cables routed all through your house and up the back of the TV? That way you could move a TV to any location in the building and receive your picture with out having to reroute cables every time.

Isn't DirecTV the company running all the ads with the creepy marionettes talking about "no more wires" for their receivers?

You still need 1 wired receiver in the house but then you can use wireless receivers for your other TVs.

This is still pretty new, since transmitting a TV image requires a lot of bandwidth and until very recently, wifi equipment couldn't support that much bandwidth, much less be able to send a reliable signal far enough to make it usable in other rooms and what not. Not to mention that wireless signals are susceptible to interference from other devices (other wifi networks, cordless phones, microwave ovens, etc.)

DirectTV has a "Genie" system where they run a wire to a central DVR, then you have small box's which you place in rooms with the TV that can "talk" to the central DVR wirelessly. Since you pay for this service - you might want to look up all their products.
