What can the Houston Rockets do?

There's no more free agents worth signing this offseason. However, the Rockets now have a lot of cap space for free agency. Rondo and Millsap, both free agents next season, are both being paid $10 million a year right now. If they sign under similar contracts next season, the Rockets can get them both without a sign and trade. They can't trade for either one right now because they don't have a whole lot of assets. Gerald Green is another guy who could fit well with the Rockets and won't be too expensive. Most of the Rockets outside of Harden, Howard, and Arizas are signed to minis, which is pretty amazing in and of itself if you think about it. So Morey put himself in a position to make things happen. But sometimes you're just unlucky, like they did with Bosh. They won't get Love. Love will get a max deal, and he hasn't expressed interest in the Rockets. The only way we could have traded for him was to package T-Jones/D-Mo with Parsons, which still might not be enough compared to Klay Thompson or Wiggins and Bennett.

I think that Morey made the logical move not matching Parson's contract. Sometimes, I feel like Morey is really a robot. His moves are predictable, only in the sense that they're logical, heartless and frugal. That's one reason why we have so many good role players on a minis with team options, something 90% of the players in the NBA won't ever agree to. His biggest mistake was underestimating Bosh. The difference between Bosh and Howard was that Howard never won a championship. Bosh wasn't hungry like that. He'd rather live a comfy life in Miami. Morey doesn't think like that because he only understands logic, not emotions. The only thing on his mind is winning a championship, which he can still do. Like I said, they have a lot of cap space because Lin, Asik and Parsons left, AND the cap limit rose. And all he signed was Ariza. The great thing is that Ariza is just as good as Parsons, overall. (although Parsons likely hasn't hit his ceiling yet) He's just as good at shooting threes, and better on defense. And Morey got him at half the cost. It looks like Dallas was the one who got burned on that deal. Will the Rockets be better than last season. I doubt it, at least not as far as the bench is concerned. Rocket's bench was pretty bad last season. Now, without Asik, and more importantly Lin (who did a majority of the scoring/ball-handling on the bench), the Rockets bench has no chance unless some of the young guys make HUGE strides. Also, they need to sign another point guard. Beverley tends to get overconfident with his scoring abilities if he's in the game too long. He'll start jacking up shots or driving in for layups at pathetic success rates. And on top of that, Harden can't handle the ball all by himself. He'll average 8 turnovers a game if he does. Not to mention his stamina issues, which I suspect is the reason he's so bad at defense now, compared to when he was playing for the Thunder. The Rockets need to find another combo guard who can pass and shoot threes, fast. Is there anyone like that? Not now that DJ Augustin has been signed by the Pistons.

Rondo seems like a possibility but not very likely, I don't see Love going to Houston given that Lebron wants him. Morey pretty much blew it this off-season...I would expect Rockets to end up around 6th-7th if they don't make a major upgrade.

Nothing for Asik, Lin, or Chandler. Looks like you will be playing for next years FA class.
