Is the Portuguese word, 'preto,' a racial slur in Brazil or politically incorrect?

Update:

@Julien - I'm asking if 'preto' is a derogatory term. I thought, in Brazil, '*****' is the racial term used to refer to blacks.

Yes, it is offensive and politically incorrect. It does sound very derrogatory when you use it to refer to people. You use it mostly for animals and objects.

Surprisingly, saying n***o is not offensive, in opposition to English.

Lately, people have also been using "afrobrasileiro" (African-Brazilian) and "afrodescendente" (Person with African anscestors) to refer to black people in Brazil.
