This is a serious question..no BS answers please. I am mainly looking for atheists to answer.?
It seems like every time I get on youtube,,yahoo news or any other public forum and there is mention of the Pope,,Jesus,,Christianity,,etc..There are countless atheists commenting rude and negative remarks about the topic. If you dont believe in God,,why are you so interested in joining in on the conversation only to slander and ridicule those people who are there for a real discussion..?? If I dont believe in something I generally just dont get involved because it doesnt interest me..When I see an article about the Kardashians I skip it and move on to something that I am interested in reading...Do you feel it is your duty to tell people they are wrong for believing in somethng that you dont believe in or understand?

Seems like most everyone, especially on the internet, does this. People who are 'against' something always seem to like criticizing others who don't think their way. I do it, too. When I do it, I feel justified because if the person posting a specific message thinks they have the right to do it, then I can exercise my right in speaking against it. It's a 2-way street.
I used to be a Christian, but found myself a different path in life which is more rewarding to me personally. I won't get into that whole thing here, but I do feel that through my life experience, I have the right to show people other ways of thinking instead of the "one true path" ideology set aside by Christians who claim there is only one road to 'god' but the rest lead to hell. That to me, is ignorance. So I speak out against ignorance. I do believe it is my duty to enlighten others, and if I speak critically against something someone has said, then it was likely well deserved.
I speak out about Christianity often, out of respect for my ancestral roots. It's just the way it must be. Though a lot of people who speak against things are ******* and ignorant themselves, who probably just have an inferiority complex they think they can get rid of by bashing others.
Remember, there are also the countless individuals who bash people for being gay or other things like that, who are afraid to face themselves and think that by bashing others they won't have to accept the fact that they are not everything they claim to be. "Me thinks thou dost protest too much" you know?

First of all, watch your word choices. Written criticism is just that - it is not libel and it certainly isn't slander. Ridicule is another matter. Expect that which is ridiculous to be ridiculed. The fact that YOU don't comment on the Kardashians does not stop others from pointing out what vapid wastes of oxygen the Kardashians are. If the topic is faith in God, then there is nothing wrong with expressing an opinion on that subject.
The beliefs of religious people are not "off limits" or sacred in any way, and they went unchallenged for a long, long time before the advent of the Internet. It's about time people who do NOT believe were able to express that, and I for one will continue to do that every chance I get.

I am most likely an atheist. I am agnostic but lately I have leaning more towards an atheist. I grew up not believing in God where my entire family did. So when I join a conversation about religion and people speak about the beauty of God, I do not criticize but speak my own opinion. It is not that I do not believe in God at all but I can't keep faith without proof. Also I would refrain from telling atheists that they don't understand religion because most of us do. We understand that other people believe in this deity and that is okay. By saying that we do not understand is just as insulting as an atheist putting down your religion.

I haven't seen that. Normally what I see, and it could just be my perception, is that atheists will simply make a statement contrary to the religious assertions being made and religious people will get upset and cry bloody murder that someone would dare doubt their faith in a public forum, IF they even allow public comments which they usually don't (wouldn't want any opposing viewpoint now would we?). This to me more indicates the true nature of religion which is to silence all dissent, to control the lives of as many people as possible and to limit all view points to a single group-think about a magical man in the sky and his appointment of an absolute authority on Earth. That aint gonna happen here, there's free speech my friend.

Just like whenever there is any mention of evolution, creationists are there making rude comments. Any time there is mention of atheism, believers are there making rude comments. Any time there is mention of liberal politics, conservatives are there making rude comments. That's Youtube.
Don't pretend it only happens with atheist comments about religion. That's dishonest.

If you bother to analyse most of the pseudo religious posts on here you will see that they are often insulting and provocative to atheists. It is therefor understandable that we retaliate. I certainly am not in the slightest bit interested in attacking believers for no reason. Live and let live is my motto. Unfortunately that does not apply to all who abuse atheism.

It's a tiny minority of atheists who do that, much like evangelist Christians or whatever don't represent everyone who happens to be christian.

We're tired of all the religion surrounding us. We want to remind you that you believe nonsense in the hope you will stop.
