Is it just me or are the Mavs stacked enough to compete for a championship this year?
Along with Dirk back, Tyson Chandler (the defensive anchor on the 2011 championship team) is back, with Monta Ellis. They also added Parsons, Felton, Rashard Lewis, Richard Jefferson, and more bench talent from last year's team (Devin Harris, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, etc.).
With chemistry built through training camp and all the talent coming together without injuries, is this a title contending team in the West?
PG: Harris
SG: Ellis
SF: Parsons (assuming Marion doesn't return)
PF: Dirk
C: Chandler
Bench: Felton (6th Man), Lewis, Wright, Crowder, Ledo, Jefferson, Marion (if he does return).

Raymond Felton, Richard Jefferson, and Rashard Lewis are TERRIBLE players. Tyson Chandler is coming off of a pretty bad season, and he is getting up there in age. Monte Ellis is coming off of a career year, he is more likely to play worse than he is to play better. Dirk is another year older.
Dallas doesn't make the playoffs. They were an 8th seed this year, and I think there are too many good, young teams in the West. New Orleans, Phoenix, Sacramento, one of those teams is going to break through and pass Dallas next season.
Edit: Ok JM, I don't know why you email me and talk trash but then block me so I can't respond. You are aware this is the internet, right? I can't actually physically hurt you, you don't need to be afraid and block me... I know I've hurt your feelings before, but I'm a little older now, and not really in the mood to make a 30 year old line cook cry anymore, I'm just here to talk basketball..
Anyways, I guess I am "biased" for saying the Pelicans, whose average starter's age is 24 and who have arguably the 3rd best player in the league, or the Suns, whose average starter's age is 27 and who finished 1 game behind the Mavs last year with their 2nd best player missing half the year, might be better than a Mavs team whose average starter is 31 years old and who was one loss away from missing the postseason last year. The Mavs may have upgraded at SF and C, but they took a big downgrade at PG, which is the most important position on the floor.
Because of the PG situation, because Tyson Chandler is 32 and has dealt with injuries in 5 of the past 6 seasons, because Dirk is 36 and is no longer an elite player, because the 7 teams that finished ahead of the Mavs are all still better than them, and because I think at least one of the young, talented teams in the West will make a 13-14 Portland Trailblazers like jump in the standings, I think Dallas will miss the playoffs next year. It is called an opinion, and not everyone who doesn't think the Mavs are a top 4 seed in the West (who's biased?!?) has some Mavs-hating agenda. People are allowed to disagree with you JM, you don't have to freak out about it.
I love the "offseason losers" comment. Did you forget the Mavs disbanded a championship winning team in order to sign a superstar, and 3 years later, still haven't?

I think the Mavs will be contenders this year, actually all of the Texas teams are in the top 6 for the West along with Clippers, Warriors and Thunder. The Mav's biggest problem though is their mess at PG. Harris hasn't signed with them yet, Felton is beyond trash, like he shouldn't even be in the D-league. Honestly, they don't really need a great PG, they just need someone who can play offball and run the offense for them on set plays, which Calderon is perfect for. I don't know why the Knicks wanted him, because he's not nearly as useful for them, but whatever. They're also a little short on defensive. Marion resigning would be great, then a nice pass first PG who can shoot efficiently from three. Some speed from the backup PG spot would help also. And you know you're not getting any speed from Felton.

I was thinking how the Mavs got a lot better in the last 2 weeks. They got a good center, Dirk in PF. Parson, and Ellis. Those 4 on their own are great players. and their bench is descent, is not half bad. So for sure they are in the west so its harder to predict where they would land, but I see them being a top 4 team.

Yes. And even if Marion returns, Parsons will start, he's younger and better. Also Mavs signed Rashard Lewis. So if Mavs could push the Spurs to 7 game last year, just imagin what they can do with all the new acquisitions.
Go Mavs!

Harris isn't anything special. Ellis is a ball hog players, hate playing with him. Dirk and Chandler are both near the end of their careers. Parsons is good, but not enough. I think they will be a 4-5 seed, but I can't see them winning it all

In my view, is just you. Felton is a scrub. This is NOT the same Chandler from 2011 & the man has aged. Not only that, dude has angry issues who picks up fights & sometimes has injuries. Parsons is good role player but he does slack. Dirk is old but I hope those knees stays healthy. The rest Harris & Ellis are good players. I see this Mavs exit in the 2nd round of the Playoffs as a 5th seed & hopefully they are better then the Rockets.
Source(s): LMFAO on JM statements. Mavs 4th seed? Get the fuck out of here. The Lakers 2010 Championship ring, is worth more then the Mavs 2011 NBA Championship ring. - JMLv 77 years ago
ROFL @ Lakers for a 3-peat? still after all this time being biased against Dallas/Dirk. Pelicans, Kings, and Suns ahead of Dallas? Keep the bias up nitwit.
They pushed the Spurs to 7 games last season and gave the champs a better fight than anyone else. Chandler is an upgrade over Dalembert and is familiar with Carlisle's system and does well next to Dirk. Notice MOST Knicks players had bad years last year? That was a mess. Ellis has a year under his belt in Carlisle's system. Parsons averaged 17ppg, 6rpg, 4apg on 37%3pt. He's an upgrade over Marion. Dirk isn't gonna just collapse and suck after averaging 22ppg on a near 50/40/90% last season. He'll be the same or better playing with better players. Felton was injured last season and dealt with off the court issues. The Mavs medical staff is known for being top notch in the league (see Chandler playing 77+ games in 2011). Felton in 2013 averaged 14ppg and 6apg. In carlisle's system he should get close to that again.
Their bench is better if they pick up Mo Williams as they already have a bench of Harris, Wright ( young player improving), Crowder (young player improving), Lewis (37%3pt shooting in the playoffs), Jefferson (40%3pt shooting last season), Smith etc. They got 3pt shooting to replace Carter and Calderon's 3pt shooting.
Lakers for a 3-peat? stop being retarded and ignorant. This team pushed SA to 7 and only got better and the Kings, Suns, and Pelicans are just going to magically leap them because in your eyes they declined (how in God's name a team can decline after upgrading at 2 starting spots is beyond me. Must be possible in your fairytale land you live in.).
And Ellis had a career year for a reason. Playing next to Dirk and playing in Carlisle's system. It wasn't an accident. At age 29 he's not going to just drop off for absolutely no reason retard. This isn't NBA live where you can turn down the game sliders on a team you don't like, moron. Use logic and stop making up random nonsense.
3peat?: "Oh I don't like this team so all their players are going to magically decline for no apparent reason (even the 29 year olds) and just start shooting 21%fg for no reason because I can make up what ever nonsense I want and pass it off as the truth like some kid). C'mon 3peat you're better than that.
Dallas is a top 4 seed out west.

@ i love my girlfriend: You're a bitter moron because the Lakers are known as this offseason's "losers" and brought in nobody. Jordan Hill for 2 years 18mil????? LOL, STFU jackazz. Meanwhile we got Dirk for 8.3 mil a year because he's unselfish unlike your superstar Kobe who took up more than a 3rd of the salary get. Get a clue moron.
You're the same ignorant tool that got upset with me before the start of last season just because I said the Lakers wouldn't make the playoffs, and you ranted about how LA would make the 2014 playoffs. Where did they finish in the conference last season? Oh that's right, sh*thead.

If Felton is on your team, don't expect much. Mavs will be the 8th seed and lose in 4-6 games in the 1st round
