What do they mean by "ethnic origin"?

Trying to fill out an application

I was born in America but my father is Jordanian and my mother is Syrian, how does that affect me?

Update:

There is no Middle Eastern option, so should I put white? That's what people usually tell me to do

Ethnic origin covers all the particulars you might want to claim white aren't really race.

Middle-eastern for instance is an ethnicity. Arab is an ethnicity.

Ethnicity can be split pretty much anyway you want to split it.

Write white if you want or just mark things none of the above.

Leave it blank. It's way past time for that question to be stricken from application forms. They don't have the right to ask.
