Wine and meat pairing!?!?

Fiancé's mom is making corned beef and cabbage... Best wine pairing?

I was thinking a red would do well?

Type and a specific suggestion would be most helpful!

  • A light red like a Beaujolais would go, also some whites like Alsace. Having said which, I personally would MUCH rather drink beer with that, eg. a French or Belgian blonde or a good pale ale.

I don't think I"ve ever had wine with corned beef and cabbage - it seems to beg for a good beer - I drink stout with mine.

I would think that a bright, sharp white would pair well with corned beef and cabbage - the richness of the meaty flavours going through the cabbage might be well countered by a white.

Heck, there are not steadfast rules unless you're in some super snooty wine club.
