Is this a Crime?

If you go up to a bank teller and politely ask "May you please hand over the money in the drawer?" and you don't have a weapon or anything. If they do it, is it a crime? After all, all you did is ask a question and you didn't threaten them or anything. I would obviously assume its a crime. However, it is a very odd situation. What would happen in court?

Yes, dear.. it is still robbery, since you asked for money that isn't yours. If you had a gun, it becomes ARMED robbery.

You try to tell the police that it was "their choice" and get laughed right into that jail cell.

Not odd at all. It's a crime called theft not "theft with a weapon". It's all about INTENT which would not be heard to prove if someone asks a teller for $$$$$$$$$$$

Of course it's a crime. It's called "bank robbery". That fact that you asked really nicely doesn't matter. The assumption is you're ROBBING them.
