Hey! The Yankees needed another shortstop to take Jeters place. Steve Drew will do and can play first base this year instead of McCann since McCann stinks at first base.

The Yankees are starting to load up for next year.

On July 4, 2012, McDonald was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees. McDonald made his Yankee debut on July 7, 2012 against his former club, the Boston Red Sox.

Claiming a player off waivers is not a trade. The player's former team does not get a player in return.

Let me be the first person to actually answer your question. McDonald was claimed off of waivers by The Yankees. He was not traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees. The last trade between the two teams was in 1997. So waivers does not count.

The Yankees need to keep going, move their entire roster.
