why are best answers chosen that are clearly not the best answer?

Most askers are not really seeking information and/or advice. They simply want others to AGREE with them. In other words, they're only going to hear what they want to hear.

So, they'll choose the answer that tells them what they wanted to hear. It may be the worst answer of the bunch, but if it agrees with what the asker already thinks ... that's the answer chosen.

Its a matter of personal preference. If someone can answer a question plainly without a lot of extra details that may be all the asker was looking for.

Something about the answer strikes a chord with the asker. What works for one person, may not work (or even make sense) to someone else.

Quite often the asker Is really just looking for agreement and chooses the answer that is closest to that.

Evidently the asker thinks so.

Since only asker can award BA it was the BA to him/her.

maybe those best answers are not the best but funny as well as creative enough.
