is it possible to trade on ebay?

I saw an item on ebay that I'd like to have. I don't really want to buy it so I was wondering, if the seller agrees to an equal value trade, is there any safe way to complete the trade?

Do we trust each other to ship our items? or is there any thing that can be done as not to be screwed by the other person?

Update:

If his ratings were good, if you were me, would you send your item to them first? and hope that he sent his to you after receiving yours? I am a kind of trusting person, although I know there are lots of scammers and liars out there.

My item sold twice in three weeks. Each buyer decided after the auction closed that they weren't really interested in buying it. I was very PO'd to say the least. LOL

First, ask the seller. I wouldn't go for this idea if I was the seller because he doesn't know if you're honest or not, whereas you can see his ratings. It's way more of a risk for him than you, so don't be surprised if he says no to your offer. It would be much easier for you to sell your item and then buy his afterwards.

You have to take that up with the seller. They might if they like what you want to trade.
