Struggling with post-heatstroke symptoms?

I work construction and it has been pretty hot out lately. I've been working in the sun mostly. I usually drink lots of water. Last week I drank plenty of water, but I was not sleeping nearly as much as I normally do. Last Thursday I felt feverish at work, but when I got home I didn't have a high temperature. Went to work Friday and within two hours had the same symptoms but far worse, this time with an incredibly intense headache, nausea, and weakness. I literally felt like I was dying or something, and I started having severe muscle cramps in my entire neck and shoulders. Came home after work and cooled off, my temp was 102+. Took medicine thinking I was sick, went to bed.

Saturday morning, my temp was 100+. I went to a walk-in and the doctor told me I had a heatstroke. They quick-tested my blood and urine while I was at the doctor's office, took about an hour. They said both came back ok. Gave me a shot for the pain and told me to keep taking ibuprofen.

Sunday: I still had intense headache that wasn't letting up, and my neck and shoulders were still incredibly stiff. Upper neck muscles in a bit of pain. Still nauseous. Called my boss, told him I was taking a couple days off to recuperate before jumping back into the heat, sun, and work.

It's Monday now. I'm still having the same intense headache, muscle cramps, and nausea. Why are they not going away? What can I do to feel better so I can go back to work Wednesday? I need to be ready for it as much as possible.

What is your diet like? I know you can't necessarily change careers to get out of the sun, but changing your diet to suite your conditions will help. Since you work in the heat, avoid hot, heavy, oily, and spicy foods, and eat light and cooling foods, try to include a salad with cucumbers in addition to you lunch and diners. I know you said you drink lots of water, but plain water can strip your body of minerals. Try adding mint leaves (or mint tea) to your water (that's what I did when I was building concert stages for outside music venues) and in other instances I have added aloe vera juice to my water as well. Aloe vera is really strong so only about a shots worth of that mixed with a cup a water is all you will need. Also what I have recently read and tried was adding about a tablespoon of raw natural sugar to water (not the white bleached sugar) and adding a pinch of sea salt to it. Also, things I may recommend is once a week give yourself a massage with coconut oil, this helps cool the skin down and it's great for sunburn. And going back to you diet try including melons, bananas, plums, mango, avocado, and organic milk. I think the diet is very important, but i think you will find that drinking water with mint will cool you down quite a but, and drinking water with aloe vera will keep you hydrated, I would drink these through out the day, and try taking a cool bath.

Source(s): I'm from Florida, and worked in the heat all the time. And I study natural medicine just for fun.

There are a lot of us here who would never condemn anyone to Hell, and who in fact do not believe in it. When I write about Satan, it is always tongue-in-cheek, trying to play a little. To be fair, however, for every Fundamentalist we have here condemning and judging, we have an atheist condemning and judging. So until we stop bothering to answer the mean-spirited posts on either side, I suppose they will continue. It doesn't take long to recognize the people who post such things, over and over. Maybe if all they could collect is a couple of stray answers, they would go away. Morality forbids showing any form of hatred toward ones fellow man. A person can be atheist and a fine human being, of course. I wish the Fundamentalists could see that.
