Ways to safely dip dye my hair?

Okay so I have medium brown hair with a few dark goldish natural highlights. I would like to dip dye my hair pink or pastel purple.

So here is what I thought I could do to dip dye my hair safely:

First, I would naturally lighten the ends of my hair (ex. with lemon juice, honey, chamomile, or others)

I think naturally lightening my hair would take 3-4 weeks.

Then, I would take temporary dye, and dye the lightened ends of my hair.

Would this method work? If it does, which way is the best to naturally lighten the ends of my hair?

If this method wouldn't work, how else could I safely dip dye my hair? (Please don't say Kool-Aid or food colouring)

Thanks :D

Update:

So is anyone going to tell me if my method will work?

Or you could just not lighten an go to Sally's. Get high color hi-lights in magenta and drop it over. It goes over everything, even black. I had my entire head hot pink or red the same day. No damage.

If you're set on the pink or purple, look up Adore or another STAINER brand. You'll want a hair STAINER, not a hair dye. They don't last as long, but they don't damage the hair nearly as badly.

DONT use kool-aid..it fades the end of your hair and looks bad antway. At stores containing hair products like target they sell a spray bottle called "sun in". You spray it in where you want your hair lightened and you can either sit in the sun or use a hair-dryer and the heat will make your hair lighter. It is safe:)

    Good luck to you!
