There is no "delete" in Mac OS X Finder, even if you tap the "delete" key. You can move files to the "TRASH". After that, you can really show them the door by emptying the trash.

go to finder, find the flash drive, find the files you want to delete and hit delete...

You can press the CMD and BACKSPACE (simultaneously) to delete Highlighted files! You can highlight and drag them to the trash, but its much faster to use cmd + Backspace!
