Tips for becoming good at drums?

More than anything else, you have to understand that a real drummer leads. The world is full of people who tap along to their favorite tunes and think they are drumming. But what they are doing is following the music. A drummer doesn't follow, he leads. Too many would-be drummers think they can join a band without learning a 'real' instrument. But nothing ruins music faster than a bad drummer.

If you can bear that in mind with everything you work on, then you can become a real drummer. There are no shortcuts or tips, just hard work.

Constantly work on your timing. That is the key to everything.

You should also work on moving around the kit.
