Can someone help with one chemistry question?

Li+ and F- ions will combine to form the salt LiF, but two Li+ ions will not combine to form Li2+2. Also, two F- ions will not combine to form F2-2. Explain why this makes sense?

    In order to form a compound, two particles must collide and bond together. When two particles with the same electrostatic charge approach each other there is repulsion which decreases the likelihood of a collision and the formation of a new ion.
