why do you need to collect 8 pages in slender?

The idea is a sense of accomplishment I guess, if the player get all 8 before Slenderman gets the player, the player wins....even if Slenderman gets the player in the end. That is if the game is Slender the Eight Pages.
If it's Slender: the Arrival, it's to go through the story.

If it's the same slender game that my son plays, he says when you collect all the pages you win and slender looses.

maybe the messages of slender reveal a secret about him and he need to kill you before you find out! who knows... slender might have a secret girlfriend!
