When external hdd is formatted, you may use data recovery software to scan hdd and restore lost data, see this free step by step guide: http://goo.gl/MNWGH

Take note that you'd better stop using the hard disk before you get back lost files. This is because that when you continue using the hard drive, new files may be written to hdd, which may use the space of lost files, and hence causes files overwritten and make those files unrecoverable.

You can recover data from formatted XBox One External Drive

    1. Do not save any new file to XBox One external drive

    2. Connect your XBox One to computer. You should see XBox One shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer now. If not, you need to take out memory card or hdd from XBox and then connect it to computer.

    3. Download recover software, recommended one is asoftech data recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)

    4. Install and open asoftech data recovery, select your external hard disk, and click 'Next' button.Scan and see if you can find your lost files.
