How do I solve this inequality?

5 − |2x + 5| ≤ 2

I can never remember how to split them in to 2 equations.

    5 − |2x + 5| =< 2

    set the absolute value = everything else

    in this case --> subtract 5 and divide through by -1.... dividing by negative will flip the inequality

    5 − |2x + 5| =< 2

    − |2x + 5| =< -3

    |2x + 5| => +3

    now you have to split the absolute value to 2 problems

    ex: |x| = 10.... then x=+10 or x=-10

    one is easy and you just remove the absolute value symbol and solve

    2x + 5 => +3

    the other is found by removing the absolute value & switching both the inequality & the sign of the other side

    2x + 5 =< -3
