Is Kia a good car or not? Why?

It's good value because you get a lot for a small amount. The cars are very cheap to maintain and very easy to work on. Kia is one of the fastest growing car companies, a few years back they were making cheap, tiny econoboxes and now they're going up against BMW, Mercedes, Audi and so on in the luxury car segment (with the Kia K9 and it's cousin, the Hyundai Equus) Unfortunately, they still hold their value like a rock.
Dependability wise, they've managed to bump it up and is currently one of the most dependable brands on the market today, probably surpassed GM and Chrysler. The earlier models were unreliable heaps of junk that would rust to bits after driving through 1mm of rain.

My first car was an O1 Kia Sephia. I would buy one over a beat-up Honda any day. Very reliable. Very inexpensive to purchase. Parts are cheap. And they're easy to work on. I now own a Hyundai Accent Coupe, due to the fact I cannot afford kia's new Forte Koupe. Hyundai is like the brother company of Kia.

They are a good cheap car. I would never buy a new Kia though. Their resale value is so bad that you may as well go and get $10,000 and drop it in the trash can. You can buy a 2 year old Kia for $4,000 if you look around.
I personally like the Kia for it's dependability but not for its comfort. I am 6'3" and I don't fit into many small cars. Kia is no exception.
Would I buy one for my wife who is 5'4" definitely. Would you see me in it often, NO!!!!
