BMI - should we rely on it or not?

So I have a high BMI but I keep seeing that BMI don't really matter because it's not always accurate.

    BMI is not an accurate gauge of body fat percentage or lean muscle mass. Neither is a scale for that matter. A pound of muscle is much more dense than a pound of fat so you could be very healthy and athletic but have a high BMI. How your clothes fit and how you feel are much better indicators of fitness.

  • BMI can't distinguish between fat and muscle. That is why 56% of NFL players are "obese". But look at yourself in the mirror. If you can see some love handles, that isn't all muscle lol.

    Bmi is an estimate for distinguishing between overweight or average weight, nothing more. It cannot distinguish between fat or muscle.

    However, common sense should tell you that unless you actually regularly lift weights and have the strength to justify the muscularity, it is not muscle and is fat.

    I agree with "❦Aиgel". Most likely you are one of the 56% of NFL players that are classified as "obese" because of excess muscle. Just look in the mirror. Do you see a big, fat NFL player, or is it all muscle like Arnold when he was winning the Mr. Universe? If you see blubber, that isn't necessarily all bad, by Yahoo! standards. I mean, most are fat, but claim to be all muscle, lol.
